A violent protests by factory workers in Noida brought traffic to a standstill at Delhi’s border with reports of stone-pelting, vandalism, and vehicles being set on fire were floating throughout the day. A car was also seen torched due to the escalated tensions between protesters and the police.
Further, a mob of over 100 protesters barged into a Maruti service centre and attacked the premises. The protesters torched vehicles, broke into the office, and set the guard’s cabin on fire.
The employees told Times Now that they don’t support such violent protests, adding, “Solutions should’ve been found through deliberations.”
In cases of such riot like situation or violent protests, damages can happen to the vehicle body, engine, windshield or even the entire vehicle could be burnt to ashes.
Amid the ongoing violent protests, a question that comes in mind of those whose cars are impacted due to the violence is whether the insurance companies cover the costs of damaged vehicles or not.
Paras Pasricha, Head of Motor Insurance at Policybazaar.com , said, “If a car is burnt during a protest or riot, it is typically covered under a comprehensive motor insurance policy, which includes protection against man-made events like riots, vandalism, and fire.”
“However, those with only a basic third-party policy will not be covered for damage to their own vehicle. In such situations, filing an FIR promptly and maintaining proper documentation is crucial to ensure a smooth claims process,” he added.
A comprehensive motor insurance policy consists of two parts ‘Own damage (OD) cover’ and third-party insurance cover.
A policyholder needs to check beforehand and if there is a comprehensive insurance policy, then the damage to the vehicle due to riots is covered under the OD section.
It is the non-compulsory part of the comprehensive motor policy that actually pays you in case of damage to your vehicle.
