Noida Airport Waterlogged After Heavy Rains, AAP Questions ‘Shoddy Construction’

  • August 12, 2026

Noida International Airport in Jewar experienced waterlogging due to heavy rainfall, leading to viral social media videos showing water accumulation in a terminal-passage connection.

Noida Airport’s Rain Reality Check: Waterlogging Fuels Political Storm

Noida International Airport in Jewar faced temporary waterlogging on Tuesday after extremely heavy rainfall in a short period, with videos showing rainwater accumulating in the passage connecting the terminal with the parking area going viral on social media.

The incident triggered a political controversy, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleging that the waterlogging exposed “corruption and shoddy construction” at the newly inaugurated airport.

In a post on X, the AAP said, “Noida International Airport, which was built at a cost of nearly ₹11,200 crore and whose inauguration was done by Prime Minister Modi just 6 months ago, today, in the very first rain, appears to have exposed the reality of corruption and shoddy construction by the Modi government.”

pic.twitter.com/A5BuPfJqXD

The airport, however, said the water ingress was temporary and that there was no disruption to flight operations.

Noida Airport issues statement

In a statement issued on August 11, Noida International Airport said that following “extremely heavy rainfall over a short period”, rainwater entered the passage connecting the terminal with the parking area.

“Airport teams responded promptly, clearing the water in under 30 minutes,” the airport said. According to the airport, traffic was temporarily rerouted through an alternate route during the incident, while passengers could continue to be picked up directly at the kerb.

“As a result, there was minimal impact on operations, and no flights were disrupted,” the airport said. The airport added that its team was examining the incident and would take corrective action wherever required.

What happened at Noida Airport?

Videos circulating on social media showed water accumulated in the area connecting the terminal and parking facilities, prompting questions over drainage arrangements at the airport amid heavy rainfall.

The airport clarified that the affected area was a passage between the terminal and parking area and maintained that the situation was brought under control in less than 30 minutes.

There was, according to the airport, no impact on flight operations or the overall functioning of the facility.

Airport inaugurated in March

The waterlogging incident comes less than five months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of Noida International Airport on March 28, 2026. The airport subsequently began commercial passenger operations on June 15, with IndiGo becoming the first airline to operate scheduled flights from the facility.
