Amid the flood, Nepal officials have clarified that the country remains open and operational for foreign travellers and tourists outside the primary flood-affected districts.
Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River floods have triggered a massive search, rescue and relief operation, with 626 bodies recovered and around 2,400 people still missing. More than 4,450 people have been rescued, including over 187 foreign nationals. Emergency operations are continuing across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan, while Nepal has sought specialised international assistance for the rescue and recovery effort.
626 Bodies Recovered, 2,400 Missing
The severe flash floods in the Bhote Koshi River have left a huge trail of destruction and triggered an extensive emergency response.
According to the latest figures, 626 bodies have been recovered, while approximately 2,400 people remain missing. More than 4,450 people have been rescued so far, including over 187 foreign nationals.
Search, rescue and emergency medical operations are continuing in the worst-affected districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan. Authorities are continuing efforts to locate those still missing and provide emergency assistance to affected communities.
Nepal Seeks Specialised International Aid
Nepal has appealed for specialised international support as rescue and relief operations continue.
An 11-member technical reconnaissance team from India has been mobilised for tunnel rescue operations. An additional specialised tunnel rescue team is expected to arrive from China.
India has also sent more than 57 tonnes of relief materials to support Nepal’s response. Essential supplies are also arriving from China, Japan, Australia and other international partners.
The assistance is expected to support the immediate rescue and relief effort as authorities deal with the scale of the disaster.
Emergency Control Room For Foreign Nationals
Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established a dedicated Emergency Control Room to assist foreign nationals affected by the floods.
The control room will coordinate with families, assist with identification procedures and handle repatriation-related processes.
The large number of foreign nationals affected has made coordination with families and authorities an important part of the ongoing emergency response.
Damage Assessment Underway
The Nepal government has begun a detailed assessment of the damage caused by the floods.
The assessment is focused on critical infrastructure, including bridges, roads and hydropower facilities.
Given the extent of the destruction, Nepal expects international assistance to also play a role in the longer-term reconstruction process.
The government is seeking support not only for immediate rescue and relief but also for rebuilding damaged infrastructure.
Nepal Rejects Claims It Refused Foreign Aid
The Government of Nepal has rejected media reports claiming that it had turned down international assistance. It reiterated that international support is actively required for the rescue, relief and reconstruction phases of the disaster.
Authorities have also urged the public and international media to rely only on officially verified information and avoid publishing or broadcasting unconfirmed figures.
