The 594-km Ganga Expressway will soon open to the public, reducing Meerut–Prayagraj travel time to 6–8 hours while boosting connectivity across 12 UP districts.
Ganga Expressway opening date, Ganga Expressway update: The much-awaited – Uttar Pradesh’s longest expressway, the Ganga Expressway, is set to open soon, as reports suggest that successful FASTag toll trials for the expressway is done. Developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and stretching to 594 km, the six-lane expressway will directly connect Meerut to Prayagraj, cutting travel time by almost half. If reports are to be believed, the UP government is preparing to approach the Prime Minister’s Office to invite PM Narendra Modi for the inauguration ceremony. As the foundation stone was also laid by PM Modi in December 2021.
Ganga Expressway Opening Date
The expressway as per Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is likely to be inaugrated between March 25 and 31, with the preparations currently underway. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority have confirmed that toll system trials and ride-quality checks are in progress.

Currently, travelling by road from Meerut to Prayagraj takes around 12 hours. Once the Ganga Expressway becomes operational, the journey will reduce to just 6–8 hours, making long-distance road travel significantly faster and smoother.

Which Districts Will Benefit from Ganga Expressway?
The starting point near Meerut (Bijoli village) is close to major NCR routes, while the endpoint near Prayagraj connects with key highways. The expressway passes through 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh:
Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.
This wide coverage ensures better connectivity for both eastern and western UP.
What will be Toll Rates on Ganga Expressway?
Although the official toll rates for Ganga Expressway have not been announced yet, reports as cited by NDTV claim that cars may be charged around Rs 2.55 per kilometre, amounting to Rs 1,515 for a one-way journey.
Small commercial vehicles may have to fork out Rs 2,405, while buses and trucks may have to pay approximately Rs 4,840.
