Mumbai police have discovered a potentially significant conspiracy aimed at harming participants in the Muharram procession.
Mumbai police have uncovered what investigators suspect could have been a major conspiracy to target people during the Muharram procession. According to preliminary information, the accused, identified as Faiyaz Nisar Hussain Premji, allegedly planned to distribute capsules laced with zinc phosphide, a highly toxic substance, by falsely claiming they were painkillers.
Police claim the capsules were being sold to people participating in the Muharram procession as medicines for pain relief. The alleged plan was foiled after the suspect was intercepted before the capsules could be distributed further.
During the operation, police recovered 14,900 capsules. Investigators have also found that an order had allegedly been placed for 30,000 capsules, raising fears that a much larger distribution was being planned.
Sources further claim that an order for 50 kilograms of zinc phosphide had also been placed, adding to the seriousness of the investigation.
Investigators are also probing the accused’s foreign travel after it emerged that he had reportedly visited Iran. Officials are examining whether the trip has any connection with the alleged conspiracy.
