DONALD Trump’s blockade in the Strait of Hormuz has been officially lifted as millions of oil barrels now flow through the key trade route again.
Supreme nepo-tyrant Mojtaba Khamenei has meanwhile accused the US president of making a peace deal out of “desperation”, despite his regime’s economy requiring open- heart surgery.
US Central Command said that their siege of the embattled strait had ceased, allowing “all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas, in accordance with the President’s direction”.
Vice President JD Vance declared earlier that 12.5 million barrels moved through the waterway overnight, and that Iran did not fire on any ships.
An average of 20 million barrels would flow through the strait pre-war, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
But Trump appeared optimistic that trade would bounce back once a detailed deal has been hashed out over the next 60 days.
The president signed a landmark memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, which will come as a huge relief for Brit drivers who have been hammered by soaring pump prices in recent months.
Both petrol and diesel prices in the UK have started to come down in recent weeks, and there are hopes an agreement will reduce them further.
After the memorandum was announced, Brent crude oil – the international benchmark – dropped to under $83 a barrel. This was its lowest level since the start of March.
Trump’s deal will also attempt to pave the way to long-term peace in exchange for an Iranian pledge to never build a nuclear weapon.
