Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), dismissed rumors about his nomination to the Rajya Sabha, stating he will not join the upper house. Following AAP’s victories in Punjab’s Ludhiana West and Gujarat’s Visavadar, Kejriwal emphasized the importance of these wins, particularly after a recent defeat in Delhi.

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal on Monday put speculation on him being nominated by the Aam Aadmi Party to Rajya Sabha to rest, asserting that he would not go to the upper house. “I want to tell you I am not going to the Rajya Sabha,” he said in a briefing after his party’s big win in Gujarat’s Visavadar and Punjab’s Ludhiana.
The AAP retained the Ludhiana West seat, with Rajya Sabha MP and industrialist Sanjeev Arora winning by a margin of over 10,000 votes. The bypoll was seen as a litmus test for the AAP, which has kept a low profile since its loss in the Delhi Assembly polls. The party had assured a ministerial post in the Punjab government once he wins, prompting speculations that the move is being planned to pave the way for Kejriwal’s entry into Rajya Sabha from Ludhiana.
When asked about speculations of him moving to Rajya Sabha, the AAP convener replied: “Many times I have been sent to the Rajya Sabha. I want to tell you I am not going to the Rajya Sabha”.
