The National Investigation Agency has made a significant breakthrough in the Red Fort car bomb case by arresting a key conspirator from Kashmir. This development sheds light on the wider network behind the deadly attack that shook Delhi earlier this month.
In a major escalation of its probe into the Red Fort car bomb blast, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Kashmiri man who played a crucial role in helping suicide bomber Dr Umar Un Nabi execute the attack that killed 10 people and injured 32 in Delhi earlier this month.
Amir was arrested from Delhi after investigators confirmed that the car used in the November 10 blast was registered in his name. According to the NIA, he had travelled to the capital to assist Umar in securing the vehicle, which was later turned into a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED).
The agency said Amir had actively conspired with Umar, an Assistant Professor of General Medicine at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, to carry out the bombing near the Red Fort.
Forensic analysis has identified the charred body found at the blast site as that of Umar Un Nabi, confirming he was the suicide bomber who drove the explosive-laden car.
Investigators have also seized another vehicle belonging to Umar, which is now undergoing forensic examination for additional evidence.
So far, the NIA has examined 73 witnesses, including several survivors injured in the blast, as part of its effort to trace every link in the chain of the conspiracy.
The agency is coordinating closely with Delhi Police, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police and other central units as it pursues multiple leads across states. Officials believe the conspiracy extends beyond the two identified conspirators, and more arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
