A highway worker said he had honked repeatedly to warn the car’s occupants and was seen asking if anyone was still inside after the landslide struck
A landslide on National Highway 707 in Shillai, Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, endangered the lives of four people, including a woman. The occupants managed to exit their car just in time, moments before large boulders rolled down the hillside.
The incident, which occurred amidst heavy rains on Friday, has been captured in a video. The footage shows a car stopping moments before the landslide, with three passengers hastily exiting and running to safety.
The video clearly shows large stones tumbling down the hillside. Just moments before the debris hits the spot, the car halts and three people — including a woman — are seen quickly exiting and running to safety. A National Highway employee present at the scene is heard saying he had been honking repeatedly to alert the occupants. He is also seen asking whether anyone else was still inside the vehicle.
The region witnessed about 77 mm of rain in Rajgarh on the same day, contributing to the landslide. Landslides are a recurring issue on this highway, exacerbated by ongoing road widening works.
