US President Donald Trump hailed the newly signed peace agreement with Iran as a historic diplomatic breakthrough, declaring that Tehran will “never have a nuclear weapon” under the framework of the deal.
Trump said the agreement aims to end the prolonged conflict between the United States and Iran, ensure the full reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, and establish what he described as unprecedented safeguards against Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“Last week, we signed a historic agreement to end the conflict with Iran, fully open the Strait of Hormuz, and accomplish what no President has ever been able to accomplish before — Iran will NEVER have a nuclear weapon!” Trump said.
“For the first time in 3,000 years, we are finally going to have peace in the Middle East,” he said while addressing crowd at the kickoff event for the Great American State Fair.
Trump said the United States and Iran are expected to finalize the agreement within the next 60 days. Over the weekend, American and Iranian officials, working with mediating parties in Switzerland, established a roadmap aimed at securing a final deal.
Vice President JD Vance, who was involved in the diplomatic efforts, said the latest round of talks “laid a very good foundation for a successful final deal” before departing Switzerland on Monday.
The proposed agreement is expected to address Iran’s nuclear program while easing tensions that have fueled instability across the Middle East in recent months. Trump presented the development as one of the key achievements of his administration, alongside economic initiatives and efforts to revitalize Washington, D.C.
Highlighting broader progress under his presidency, Trump told the crowd that the United States is currently living through a “Golden Age,” pointing to gains in diplomacy, economic growth, and national development.
