Mission officials are in ‘constant and direct touch’ with thousands of Indian nationals stranded due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation, sources said

As West Asia stands on the precipice of a full-scale regional war following the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, the Indian government has initiated a massive diplomatic and logistical effort to ensure the safety of its citizens. Top sources within the Indian Embassy in Israel have confirmed to CNN-News18 that mission officials are in “constant and direct touch” with the thousands of Indian nationals currently stranded due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation.
The Indian Embassy has established 24×7 communication channels to monitor the safety, precise locations, and immediate requirements of the Indian community, which includes a significant number of caregivers, IT professionals, and students. A detailed security advisory has been reissued, urging all citizens to exercise “extreme caution”, avoid all unnecessary movement, and strictly adhere to the safety protocols mandated by the local Home Front Command. This outreach is being facilitated through a multi-pronged mechanism involving official digital channels, social media, and direct community leader engagement.
With Israel’s airspace currently a theatre for interceptions and commercial flight operations severely disrupted, New Delhi is actively preparing for a large-scale evacuation. Embassy sources indicated that formal planning is already underway to facilitate the exit of Indian nationals through land borders.
The Ministry of External Affairs is currently assessing two primary corridors: Egypt (via the Taba crossing) and Jordan (via the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge). The final route will be determined by real-time threat assessments and the “security matrix” on the ground. Crucially, movement will only be facilitated the moment a “safe and viable window” is secured through coordination with local authorities and regional partners.
The Embassy has issued a stern warning to citizens against attempting to reach border points independently. Sources emphasised that the current situation is “not conducive for road travel” due to active hostilities, restricted mobility corridors, and the highly unpredictable nature of the security landscape.
