India Crowned Queens Of Lord’s; Becomes First Women’s Team In History To Win Test Match At ‘Home Of Cricket’

  • July 14, 2026

The Indian women’s cricket team won the first-ever women’s test match at Lord’s Cricket Ground by defeating hosts England by a thumping margin of 270 runs.

The 212-year-old history of the Lord’s Cricket Ground, which is widely regarded as the ‘home of cricket,’ will forever have a chapter on the Indian women’s cricket team, who scripted history on Monday (July 13) at the storied venue by winning the first-ever women’s test match at the venue after thrashing England by runs in a one-off test match.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side bounced back strongly from the setback of failing to make the semi-finals of the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which also took place in England by proving their prowess in the longest format in the historic clash.

India’s Domination

After England won the toss and chose to bowl first, India posted 285 on the board with Smriti Mandhana (83) top-scoring while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (58) and Richa Ghosh (57) also making half-centuries. In reply, England was bowled out for just 170 with Kranti Gaud taking a five-for. This made her the first female bower, whose name was engraved in the iconic Lord’s honours board.

India built on their lead of 115 runs and posted 341-7 in the second innings before declaring on the third day to give the home team a massive target of 457. Yastika Bhatia was the star of the show with her maiden Test century as she made a knock of 113 in 158 balls. This made her the first woman batter to find a place on the honors board of the venue.

In the fourth innings, England’s batting once again crumbled as they were bowled out for 186. Sneh Rana took four wickets while Deepti Sharma, Sayali Satghare, and Gaud got two wickets each.

India’s Incredible Test Record

This result meant India returned to winning ways in Test cricket after a thumping 10-wicket defeat to Australia at WACA in March. The Asian giants have an incredible record in the longest format, with the defeat at Perth being their only loss in the last two decades.

Since 2021, when India has regularly played Test cricket again, they have won four out of the seven games they have played, with two draws and one defeat. In their last five Tests, Harmanpreet’s girls have four victories.
