‘Incorrect Map, J&K Integral Part Of India’: Indian Diplomat Corrects Bangladeshi Counterpart At Seminar

  • July 11, 2026

The incident occurred during a seminar in Bangladesh when diplomat Puja Jha immediately objected after an incorrect map showed J&K as part of Pakistan.

The seminar came to a brief halt after Puja Jha rose from the audience to object to the map, saying Jammu and Kashmir is an “integral and inalienable part of India”. (IMAGE: X)

An incorrect map, followed by a prompt correction and an equally swift clarification, has drawn attention online this week after an exchange at a seminar in Dhaka over the depiction of Jammu and Kashmir.

The incident occurred during a foreign policy seminar in Bangladesh when India’s Second Secretary at the High Commission in Dhaka, Puja Jha, immediately objected after an incorrect map showed Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan.

“Sir, this is an incorrect map. Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India,” Jha said.

The exchange took place during a seminar titled Rebuilding Trust, Renewing Regional Integration: Pathways for Revitalising SAARC at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in Dhaka on Monday.

Following the objection, former diplomat Tariq A. Karim clarified that the map had been used for “representational purposes only” and “doesn’t project actual boundaries”.

Jha responded: “I understand, sir, but Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, and it is misrepresented here. So I wanted to point it out.”

Karim then asked whether Jha was from India, following which the Second Secretary at the Indian High Commission introduced herself.

“Point noted,” Karim said before resuming his presentation.

The exchange in Dhaka is the latest in a series of instances where Indian diplomats have publicly challenged what New Delhi describes as inaccurate representations or allegations concerning the country in international forums.
