Hulu will no longer exist as a standalone app by 2026, with all of its content fully merging into Disney+. The shift will begin on October 8 when Hulu will replace the Star brand internationally and deeper integration starts in the US.

After nearly 20 years as one of the top streaming services, Hulu is set to disappear as a separate app. Disney has confirmed that by 2026, Hulu will be fully merged into Disney+.
The company says the goal is to simplify its streaming options and build one stronger platform.
What Changes Will Start In October
The transition will begin on October 8 this year. Outside the US, Hulu will replace the Star brand in the Disney+ app and serve as the new home for adult-oriented programming.
In the United States, Disney+ users will start noticing more Hulu content built directly into the Disney+ app. Disney described this as “an ongoing and iterative slate of product updates on the homepage and beyond.”
Even though the Hulu app will disappear over time, the name “Hulu on Disney+” will remain. Disney believes this brand has stronger global recognition compared to “Star,” especially for fans of Hulu originals.
Hulu’s Journey So Far
Hulu launched in 2007, becoming popular for offering next-day access to network TV shows alongside original series. It grew into a major player in streaming, with award-winning shows like The Handmaid’s Tale.
Disney took full control of Hulu this summer after completing a deal with Comcast. Industry experts said the shutdown of the standalone app was expected, since Disney wanted to streamline its services.
Subscription Prices Going Up
This change also comes with higher prices across Disney’s streaming services. Starting October 21, Disney+ with ads will rise from $9.99 to $11.99 per month.
Disney+ Premium (no ads) will increase from $16 to $19 per month. Hulu with ads will cost $11.99, while ad-free stays at $18.99. Hulu + Live TV with ads will climb by $7 to $90 per month.
ESPN Select (previously ESPN+) will go up by $1 to $12.99.
Disney says these hikes reflect the larger library customers will get under the new combined platform and the company’s continued investment in original programming.
What It Means For US Customers
Right now, US customers can still subscribe to Hulu and Disney+ separately. But by 2026, Hulu will no longer exist as an app. Its content will be fully integrated into Disney+.
This means users will have just one streaming service to manage, but also likely face higher costs if they want the full package.
