The family of Ketan Agrawal, a 26-year-old allegedly murdered by his fiancée Siya Goyal and her lover Chetan Chaudhary, participated in a candlelight vigil in Pune, demanding capital punishment for the accused.
The family of 26-year-old Ketan Agrawal, who was allegedly murdered by his fiancée Siya Goyal and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary, joined hundreds of people at a candlelight march in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad, demanding capital punishment for the two accused.
Residents, friends and well-wishers gathered to pay tribute to Ketan, carrying candles and placards reading “Justice for Ketan Agrawal”. His grieving parents appealed for speedy justice, saying the accused should be awarded the death penalty.
“I want justice for my son. Siya has a mother, and I am a mother too, but I still want the death penalty for Siya and Chetan,” Ketan’s mother, Rakhi Agrawal, said during the march.
His father, Vishal Agrawal, said his son had done nothing to deserve such a fate and urged people to continue supporting the family until justice is delivered.
“My 26-year-old son was killed for no reason. I was preparing for his wedding, but instead I lost my child. I appeal to everyone to ensure his killers receive the death sentence. I have full faith in the law and the investigation,” he said.
Ketan was allegedly killed on June 18 at Lohagad Fort near Lonavala after being pushed off a cliff. According to police, Siya Goyal, 20, allegedly conspired with her alleged lover, 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, to eliminate Ketan because she did not want to marry him. Investigators have said Siya and Chetan had been in a relationship for more than a year, even as her wedding with Ketan was scheduled to take place in Udaipur in November.
As part of the investigation, Lonavala Police on Friday questioned Siya’s parents, Pravin Goyal and Pooja Goyal, along with her brother, Sahil Goyal. According to PTI, Sahil was questioned for nearly 10 hours regarding his sister’s relationship with Chetan.
Siya Goyal remains in police custody until June 29 as investigators continue to probe the case.
The Maharashtra government has approved a fast-track court for the trial and appointed senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Ujjwal Nikam as the Special Public Prosecutor.
Earlier, Vishal Agrawal met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Pune and sought speedy justice. The chief minister assured the family that strict action would be taken against the accused and that the case would be fast-tracked.
