Geeta Basra, known for her roles in Dil Diya Hai and The Train, recently opened up about her early departure from Bollywood.
She revealed that after meeting cricketer Harbhajan Singh, industry perceptions shifted, leading directors to assume she was getting married and thus stepping away from her career. This assumption cost her four film opportunities. “With no godfather in the industry, it was difficult to convince them otherwise,” she stated, highlighting the challenges faced due to traditional mindsets prevalent at the time.
Reflecting on the industry’s evolution, Geeta noted, “Today, no one cares if you’re married or have kids. What matters is your work on screen.” She emphasized that the focus has shifted to talent and performance rather than personal life choices.
Harbhajan Singh, her husband, expressed unwavering support for her decisions. He mentioned, “Whenever she had a choice to make in life, I always stood by her and supported her. But ultimately, everything happens as per God’s plan… My job is to stand by her like a pillar and encourage her in whatever she chooses to do.”
