In July 2025, several shots were fired at a newly opened cafe in Surrey, British Columbia, owned by comedian Kapil Sharma and his wife, Ginni Chatrath.

Comedian Kapil Sharma left the audience in splits at Netflix’s What’s Next event in Mumbai on Tuesday after making a remark that many interpreted as a subtle dig at gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The moment unfolded when Netflix India CEO Monika Shergill took the stage to interact with Sharma, praising his long association with the platform.
While speaking about how Netflix had been keen to collaborate with him for a long time, Shergill quipped in Hindi, “Hamari nazar, India ki nazar toh bahut time se aap par hai, Kapil. Hopefully 11 mulko ki police ki nazar nahi hone chahiye,” drawing loud laughter from the audience.
However, Kapil, known for his quick wit and spontaneous humour, immediately said, “Ek do mulkon ke gangster bhi lage hue hai aaj kal,” hinting at the recent headlines surrounding Lawrence Bishnoi and his gang. Realising the sensitivity of the comment, the comedian jokingly urged the media to cut that line from their coverage. However, the situation turned even more amusing when Sharma realised that the event was being broadcast live, making any edits impossible.

Kapil Sharma’s Cafe Attacked By Lawrence Bishnoi
In July 2025, several shots were fired at a newly opened cafe in Surrey, British Columbia, owned by comedian Kapil Sharma and his wife, Ginni Chatrath. The cafe- named Kaps Caffe- had just celebrated a soft opening, drawing attention for its elegant pink-and-white interior, floral accents and a menu of artisan coffee and desserts. However, celebrations turned to chaos when the eatery was vandalised. While no injuries were reported, the property suffered damages.
Later, Goldy Dhillon of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the shooting and sent a stern warning to the comedian. “JAI SHRI RAM, Satshriakal ram sare bhaiyo ko aj jo y kapil sharma k kaps cafe..Surrey m firing hui iski jimevari, Goldy dhillon, Lawrence bishnoi gang lete h isko hamne call ki thi isko ring nhi Sunai di to karwai krni pdi ab b ring n sunegi to next karwai jaldi hi Mumbai krege,” he wrote on social media.
