Bengaluru’s Health Department has initiated inspections at several high-profile clubs to assess adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations. FDA teams discovered multiple violations, such as inadequate personal hygiene among food handlers, unsanitary storage conditions, and pest infestations.
The Health Department has launched raids at some of Bengaluru’s top clubs to check whether food safety rules and hygiene standards are being followed. The inspections are being carried out by FDA teams at clubs that have some of the city’s elite as members, with membership fees at several clubs running into lakhs of rupees.
The inspections found several alleged food safety and hygiene violations at some of the clubs. These included poor personal hygiene among food handlers, unhygienic frozen storage rooms, cockroach infestation and a lack of proper separation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
The teams also found that hot water was not available at some utensil-cleaning areas, raising concerns over basic hygiene practices followed in the kitchens.
FDA Teams Raid 10 Bengaluru Clubs
The FDA teams are searching the following clubs as part of the food safety inspections:
- Century Club
- KSCA Club
- Race Course Club
- Bowring Club
- Catholic Club
- Badminton Club
- Tennis Club
- Vijayanagara Club
- Mahalakshmi Layout Club
- Malleshwaram Club
The raids are aimed at checking kitchen hygiene, food storage, food handling and compliance with food safety guidelines at these establishments.
Officials are also looking into whether food handlers are maintaining proper personal hygiene while preparing and serving food. The presence of cockroaches and poor conditions in frozen storage areas have also raised concerns about food contamination.
Notice Issued To Mahalakshmi Layout Club
Among the establishments inspected, Mahalakshmi Layout Club was found to have poor hygiene standards, following which the authorities issued a notice to the club.
The inspections come amid growing concerns over food safety and hygiene standards at food-serving establishments. The Health Department is expected to take further action based on the findings of the ongoing inspections.
