The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is considering a new toll policy that includes a FASTag Annual Pass for Rs 3,000, allowing unlimited travel on national highways for a year. Users can choose between this pass or a distance-based pricing model at Rs 50 per 100 km.
A new toll policy could allow vehicle owners to opt for a FASTag Annual Pass, allowing them to have unlimited travel on national highways and expressways with a one-time payment of Rs 3,000 per year.
According to a report in Times Of India, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is considering a dual-payment system under the new toll regime, offering users the choice between an Annual Pass and distance-based pricing. Changes are also being considered in regards to physical toll booths to make travel seamless.
FASTag Annual Pass: What are the two options?
- FASTag Annual Pass: A one-time FASTag recharge of Rs 3,000 would allow private vehicle owners to travel across all national highways, state expressways, and expressways without incurring additional toll charges for an entire year.
- Distance-based Pricing: For those who do not opt for the annual model, a flat toll of Rs 50 per 100 km could replace the current toll plaza fee structure.
Existing FASTags will also be valid, and this will be a hassle-free transition. Vehicle holders won’t have to show any new documents or account changes, and existing FASTag users can simply opt into the new policy using their current accounts, TOI reported.
Earlier, the government had proposed a lifetime FASTag policy, which proposed a hefty one-time fee of INR 30,000 for 15 years. But this has been removed.
