KNICKS superstar Jalen Brunson clapped back at his critics during his victory speech after over a million fans flooded Lower Manhattan to celebrate the team’s first championship since 1973.
Hundreds of fans erupted in applause as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani personally handed keys to the city to the team’s coaching staff, front office, and players during the closing ceremony at City Hall.

The joyous celebration was over half a century in the making after the Knickerbockers ended the city’s 53-year championship drought with their Game 5 victory over the rival San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.
Finals MVP Brunson had the final laugh at the NBA pundits who criticized the Knicks for signing their superstar point guard in July 2022.
At the time, the Knicks were ridiculed by several fans and sports commentators for signing Brunson to a four-year, $104 million contract.
The announcement was viewed as another self-sabotaging move by New York who failed to sign other big free agents on the market at the time like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Pundits questioned Brunson’s stature and said he was “too small” to lead a team to a championship.
However, Brunson shouted out his critics without mentioning their names, saying, “There’s a lot of people who have a lot of negative stuff to say.
“There’s a lot of people who have their own opinions.
“But when you prove them wrong, you don’t have to say s**t to them. They don’t deserve it.”
