Earlier on Saturday, the US and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on Iran, sharply escalating tensions in the Middle East after weeks of mounting strain.

India on Saturday expressed deep concern over the rapidly evolving situation in West Asia, particularly in Iran and the wider Gulf region, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) saying New Delhi is closely monitoring recent developments and their potential impact on regional peace and stability. Emphasising the need for restraint, India urged all parties involved to avoid actions that could further aggravate the situation.
“India is deeply concerned at the recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region. We urge all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise the safety of civilians,” the MEA said in an official statement.
Stressing the importance of peaceful engagement, the government underlined that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to de-escalation.
It also reiterated that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected, reflecting India’s long-standing position on adherence to international law and the UN Charter.
