The Court said that Chaudhary’s name, voice, image and likeness will be protected.
The Delhi High Court on Friday passed an order protecting the personality rights of journalist and Doordarshan anchor Sudhir Chaudhary.
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora said that Chaudhary’s name, voice, image and likeness will be protected.
Further, the Court ordered the removal of AI-generated and deepfake content published by several users on social media platforms like YouTube and those run by Meta Platforms (Instagram and Facebook).
“The way I will draft the order is that they (Chaudhary) will first write to them (uploaders) and mark it to you. They (uploaders) will have 48 hours to remove it (content infringing on Chaudhary’s personality rights). If they (uploaders) don’t take it down, then you (Google and Meta) will take action,” the Court said.
Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao appeared for Chaudhary and argued that the journalist’s voice was being used for commercial purposes without his consent. He pointed to several social media accounts infringing Chaudhary’s personality.
“All these are videos that are AI-generated. All of these are unauthorised…I have not made any of these statements,” Rao said.
After considering the case, the High Court passed the orders protecting Chaudhary’s personality.
