Better to die than surrender: Criminal climbs 5th-floor ledge to evade cops

A dramatic arrest unfolded in Ahmedabad as a wanted criminal tried to escape police by climbing onto a fifth-floor ledge and threatening to jump. The accused, identified as Abhishek alias ‘Shooter’, even livestreamed the incident on social media, demanding that police back off. In a video captured by a police officer, Abhishek declared that he would rather choose death than surrender to the authorities.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch had received a tip-off about Abhishek’s presence at his residence in Shivam Awas. When officers arrived and knocked on the door, which was locked from inside, he refused to open it. Instead, he attempted to flee through the kitchen window and stood on a narrow ledge, drawing a crowd below.

As tensions escalated, emergency responders and firefighters were called to the spot. After a prolonged standoff, they managed to rescue him safely. Abhishek was then taken into custody. Police said further investigation is underway to probe his criminal links.

After several tense minutes, the police forced open the door to find Abhishek standing precariously on the ledge of the fifth floor, livestreaming the incident on social media via his mobile phone. He also threatened to jump, which put the police on high alert.

In a separate video recorded by a Crime Branch officer, as the officers tried to persuade Abhishek to surrender, he was heard saying, “I know how you will treat me. It’s going to be really bad. It’s better that I die than surrender to you.” Despite their repeated assurances that he would be treated fairly and with dignity, Abhishek remained unyielding.

The Crime Branch promptly contacted the fire department, urging them to arrive quickly to assist in the rescue. After a prolonged and delicate three-hour negotiation, firefighters successfully rescued Abhishek from the ledge and handed him over to the police, who immediately took him into custody.
