BJP accused a TMC councillor from Taki Ward 12 of molesting a former BSF jawan’s wife and criticised police inaction, intensifying political tensions in Bengal ahead of elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal after allegations surfaced against a TMC councillor from Taki municipality in North 24 Parganas district.
According to West Bengal BJP Spokesperson Debjit Sarkar, a TMC councillor from Ward 12 in Taki allegedly molested the wife of a former Border Security Force (BSF) jawan. Sarkar claimed that the incident occurred in “retaliation” after the woman’s husband was earlier assaulted and allegedly denied police assistance due to the councillor’s political influence.
Reacting to the matter, the BJP leader wrote on social media platform X, “Shame on TMC. A TMC councillor from Taki (Ward 12) is accused of m0lesting the wife of a former BSF jawan in retaliation after her husband was assaulted and denied police help due to political influence. Power used to silence citizens and target women is an attack on democracy(sic).”
The BJP’s West Bengal unit also issued a statement on X, calling the situation an example of “Mahajungle Raj” in the state.
“A TMC councillor in Taki (Ward 12) is accused of outraging the modesty of a former BSF jawan’s wife after police allegedly refused action in an earlier assault case due to political pressure. When power shields criminals and women are targeted, it becomes clearer how much Bengali society is under threat from TMC,” the party stated.
