Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Vikrant Massey Reveals First Officer Clive Kunder, Initially Mistaken As Cousin, Was Close Family Friend Who Died!
Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey has confirmed that his cousin, Clive Kunder, tragically lost his life in the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12. Clive was serving as the first officer aboard Air India Flight AI‑171, a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner bound for London, which plunged shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Massey shared his heartbreak: “My heart breaks for the families & loved ones of the ones who lost their lives in the unimaginably tragic air crash in Ahmedabad today. It pains even more to know that my uncle, Clifford Kunder, lost his son, Clive Kunder, who was the 1st officer operating on that fateful flight.” He added, “May God give strength to you and your family uncle, and to all deeply affected”.
Initial reports loosely labeled Clive as Massey’s cousin, which fueled confusion. In response, Massey made further clarifications: “Dear friends in the media & elsewhere, the unfortunately deceased Mr. Clive Kunder was NOT my cousin. The Kunder’s are our family friends. Request no more speculations & let the family and loved ones grieve in peace,” he wrote.
The crash was one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters in recent memory. Flight AI‑171, with 242 people on board—230 passengers and 12 crew—went down near the Meghaninagar locality at around 1:38 p.m., just minutes after takeoff, exploding into a fireball. Only a single passenger, a 40‑year‑old, survived.
